I am a Chartered Child and Educational Psychologist who has been in practice since 2009. I have worked across a range of organisations including Local Authorities, business, charities, television, and the NHS. Alongside my work at Collective Psychology I support a diverse group of schools.
Who I Support
Children, young people (10+) and the key systems they belong to i.e. their families and schools
Common concerns
I work with a broad spectrum of concerns, including, but not limited to, anxiety, low mood, neurodiversity, low-self-esteem, grief and overall emotional well-being
Areas of clinical interest
Adolescence, school related stress including bullying, academic demands and friendship dynamics, health anxiety, resilience and the impact of parental separation and divorce on children.
How I Work
My approach is very creative, structured and dynamic incorporating a broad spectrum of psychological approaches including Psychodynamic and Systemic ideas as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) threads.
I am a very down-to earth applied practitioner, that mines for strengths and resources and believes in the power of fun, collaboration, connection and community both in the therapy room and the world beyond its door. Engagement is fundamental so sessions are infused with the interests and values of the children and young people I meet with: Taylor Swift, Minecraft, Mochi, Arsenal and Wicked 2 may make an appearance! Sessions are practical and may take the form of Behavioural Experiments in the local high street. Children and young people feel more validated and empowered when they leave therapy – developing bespoke tool-boxes of strategies that increase their independence and confidence – life becomes more enjoyable.
Professional Background and Qualifications
Doctorate in Child, Educational and Community Psychology, Tavistock Clinic
PG Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Children and Adolescents Specialism, University of Oxford
PGCE Primary
BSc (Hons) Psychology – 1st Class Honors
Over two decades working within systems and organisations supporting the learning and emotional well-being of children and adolescents
Beyond the Therapy Room
I love immersing myself in different cultures whether that be watching international films on Mubi, trekking through tea plantations in Sri Lanka, moving up a level in Duolingo, living in Brazil or drinking a cup of Punjabi cha with my lively family and friends.
I adore engaging in arts and crafts, dancing and being out in nature. I always have a couple of long-distance trails on the go: currently the South-West Coast Path and the Ridgeway. I have a deep interest in the psychology and design of spaces which stems from my undergraduate dissertation: The Psychology and Design of Punjabi Sikh Living Rooms across Two Generations
