About Me
I’m Nancy, a Clinical Psychologist offering private therapy alongside my NHS role as a Perinatal Clinical Psychologist. Since 2017, I’ve worked in NHS services at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of care supporting children and young people, adults, parents, and families experiencing a broad range of emotional and mental health challenges.
Who I Support
Children and young people, adults, parents
Common concerns
Anxiety (including generalised anxiety, specific phobias, panic attacks, health anxiety, social anxiety), OCD, PTSD, low mood/depression, self-criticism, low self-esteem, perfectionism, stress, adjustment to parenthood, and perinatal mental health difficulties (including but not limited to low mood and anxiety within the perinatal context and maternal OCD)
Areas of particular interest
As I am currently working towards BABCP level two accreditation, I currently have a particular interest in working from a cognitive-behavioural approach. I am also particularly interested in working with individuals who may find that they can relate to themselves harshly, critically, or with judgment, or find that they may blame/shame themselves when they are experiencing difficulty, in addition to those who may identify with having had difficult experiences in childhood (including developmental trauma, also referred to as complex trauma) and/or difficult experiences of being parented themselves.
How I Work
I take an integrative and evidence-based approach to my work, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), and research regarding attachment theory, trauma, and neuroscience. I aim to tailor therapy to your individual needs, hopes, and goals, supporting you to reflect on your experiences and develop a greater understanding of yourself, alongside developing practical skills/tools for everyday life. Clients have described my approach as warm, caring, calm, and kind, and our sessions together as a safe space in which they felt able to open up about things they initially weren’t sure they could.
Professional Background and Qualifications
– Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy), University College London (UCL)
– BSc in Psychology, First Class Honours, University of Southampton
– Additional training: Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT) accredited foundation level training, British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) accredited level two training, Dyadic Developmental Practice, Psychotherapy & Parenting level one training, additional post-qualification trainings in Compassion Focused Therapy (Compassionate Mind Foundation), additional post-qualification training in Perinatal Clinical Psychology (University of Exeter)
Experience
Over eight years in NHS mental health services, including work in community, inpatient, and highly specialist services across the lifespan
Beyond the Therapy Room
Outside of my work, I enjoy gardening and looking after my physical health and fitness. I enjoy the sense of connection I feel with nature and our environment through gardening, in addition to how it tests (and fosters) my patience and perseverance. Weightlifting in particular has helped me reconnect to movement in adulthood, and I am grateful for how it reminds me about the importance of consistency and commitment to the small, everyday habits, in addition to how it empowers me to feel both physically and mentally strong.
